Hudson Yards’ beloved art platform is reinventing itself this summer, this time with new artists and a first-time outdoor showcase (coming soon). Fittingly, “HYxOffTheWall 2.0” is a celebration of the irrepressible spirit of the city and its people. One piece, by Dirty Bandits, inspires viewers to achieve more, do more, give more and love more. Another, by local artist Erika deVries of Lite Brite Neon, incorporates handwritten transcriptions from her family members. The contribution of Felix R. Cid even repurposes cardboard boxes from Hudson Yards’s own retailers! Another featured creator is Seb Patane.
You can see the outdoor exhibit at several points on the Public Square and Gardens, including artists Elle Street Art and Key Detail. Both artists will be installing their latest pieces mid-August for viewers to come watch them live.
When HYxOffTheWall launched in conjunction with last year’s opening of The Shops & Restaurants, it provided a highly compelling and friendly welcome, offering visitors a chance to experience multimedia works in a non-gallery setting. (The title of the ongoing exhibit refers not only to where the art is displayed but also the mood of the pieces too—unusual, curious, with a touch of humor.) All of it strives to be site specific, relating to the area’s past, present and future.
