The humble pita is anything but in the hands of Eyal Shani, the Israeli chef who transforms the middle eastern staple into masterpieces at Miznon. These affordable delicacies, which currently fill bellies in Paris, Vienna, Melbourne and other parts of New York City, will be available at the newest Miznon location, on Level 4 at Hudson Yards.
Among the tantalizing menu items: The Folded Cheeseburger Pita, stuffed with white cheddar, garlic aioli, sour cream, tomatoes and pickles; and the crispy but juicy Ribeye Minute Steak Pita, with tahini, tomato salsa, pickles and spicy green peppers. Shani has built other sandwiches around wild mushrooms, falafel, lamb kebabs and more. Miznon’s buzziest item, though, is none of these. In fact, it’s not even a sandwich. If you haven’t yet heard of the whole roasted cauliflower, already and rightly a local obsession, you may not be listening to the right foodies..
The Miznon team matches its food—made with fresh, seasonal and local ingredients—with a little fun. “You don’t just order at the counter and sit down,” says Jess Freeman, who handles marketing and operations for the restaurant. “We play music, we might offer a snack, and when it’s safe again to do so, your server might sit down and hang with you.” Don’t expect to recognize those servers by their uniform—they don’t wear one. “We want employees to fully express themselves,” Freeman says.
For now, Miznon will offer take out, delivery and socially distanced indoor dining, everyday from 12:00 pm to 8 pm.
