José Andrés Feeds Those in Need

His World Central Kitchen is at one million meals and counting in hurricane-stricken Bahamas

Mercado Little Spain’s José Andrés is once again doing what he does - offering help after tragedy. World Central Kitchen (WCK), the organization Andrés founded to feed the hungry, just served its one-millionth meal to Northern Bahamians displaced or disadvantaged since last month’s category 5 Hurricane Dorian. WCK, of course, has significant experience with such relief efforts, having been on the ground in Puerto Rico, Guatemala and North Carolina among other post-disaster areas. But with multiple islands affected, the logistics of #ChefsForBahamas have been especially complex. Transporting meals to the 250-plus locations where they are needed requires 30 land vehicles, five helicopters, four speedboats, two seaplanes, one 220-foot ship, and an amphibious vehicle.
