Hudson Yards’ Style Director picks for a stylish back to school
Clothes, and more, to start the year on the right foot.
With kids returning to in-person schooling this year—some for the first time in more than a year!—a little shopping may be in order. Whether your child is headed to Kindergarten or high school, The Shops have just what they need to feel good and get their head back in the game. Even better, Style Director Kate Powell is sharing some of her favorites.
For the smaller set
A new wardrobe to start off a new school (or pre-school) year is key. Look for clothes that will be comfortable but also look great for first day photos. And because the chillier weather will be here soon enough, some great transitional jackets and sweaters. Plus, STEM toys and activities to get them excited—turning learning into fun is a great way to engage young minds.

For the teens
The movie Clueless is once again influencing fashion—this time the look is big for fall. Other must haves: mini makeup items that allow for a quick bathroom touch up without weighing down their backpack (of course, there are great options in store for those too!) As for the education part of back to school, this ingenious pen digitizes handwriting on a tablet or phone, and lets them record voice memos when writing doesn’t cut it.
