High Line Nine’s Galleries Showcase Artists at Work

An innovative pop-up ushers in a return to creating

There’s a dynamic new pop-up at High Line Nine, offering a rare opportunity not only to see some art but the creative process as well. From now until August 29th, a quintet of painters will be working behind the windows of five separate galleries along the High Line Nine’s corridor. The public can walk through the gallery’s passageway and get a glimpse of the artists as they create their latest projects - so long as they follow face covering and six-foot social distancing guidelines. If they like what they see, they can purchase by scanning dedicated QR codes.

This kicks off the High Line Nine Artist Residency, a partnership with online marketplace Sugarlift, which connects collectors with today’s top emerging artists. The artists featured are Luke Baggott, Nicholas V. Sanchez, Vicky Barranguet, Casey Baugh and Tony “Rubin” Sjöman.

“The New York City landscape forms the backdrop to my work and provides the opportunity to recontextualize the felt experience of the city in transformation,” said Luke Baggott. “I create imagined perspectives to reflect the state of flux whilst offering clues to the potential within this reconstruction.”

Art created during the residency will also be exhibited in a group show.
