HBO AND WARNERMEDIA CLIMB VESSEL FOR SPIRIT DAY
In their annual show of support for GLAAD’s global effort to stop bullying of LGBTQ youth
In 2010 high schooler Brittany McMillan rallied fellow students to wear purple, the “spirit” color on the pride flag. From that simple request, Spirit Day has grown into the world’s largest LGBTQ anti-bullying campaign. The unified support is still very much needed: LGBTQ students remain overwhelmingly bullied with 70% reporting being verbally harassed and nearly 60% feeling unsafe at school.
Today employees from HBO and WarnerMedia donned purple and took over Vessel to stage a photo to further the cause. Such a show of solidarity is an annual event for the WarnerMedia family, as they join many other corporations and media outlets, plus sports leagues, schools, faith institutions, in the GLAAD-promoted commemoration.
