To celebrate LGBT Pride Month, Hudson Yards is furthering its support of the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) for LGBTQ+ youth. HMI has been helping gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth reach their full potential since 1979, and continues to provide essential resources throughout the New York City area.
HMI offers at-risk LGBTQ+ youth assistance with basic survival needs, from a hot meal and pan services to a warm coat and homeless shelter referral. The organization also provides crucial mental health counseling and access to medical resources. HMI also helps the youth it serves thrive, through advocacy and training, educational resources for completing a GED, college counseling and scholarships and skill training for job placements, internships, and much more.
The organization continues to innovate and serve during the coronavirus pandemic via online resources and virtual programming. This month they’re hosting a four-episode virtual Youth Pride Extravaganza featuring performances from Taylor Dayne, Andy Bell, Wé McDonald and Mighty Real: The Sylvester Musical, Zachary Quinto, Sandra Bernhard, Tina Burner, Miss Lawrence and more.
“Hudson Yards has been a committed supporter of HMI and has demonstrated impact through board leadership and awareness campaigns and initiatives,” said Thomas Krever, HMI’s CEO. “HMI is proud to partner with Related Companies for Pride this year. We look forward to continuing our work together as we cultivate meaningful, community-driven projects that will ultimately help us enhance the lives of LGBTQ youth.”
