In Spain, Día de Los Reyes is as festive a day as Christmas, combining feasting and gifting to mark the visit of the Three Kings—a.k.a. the Wise Men— to the baby Jesus. As any Spaniard will tell you, the holiday, celebrated every January 6th, isn’t complete until you’ve cut into a traditional Roscón de Reyes cake. In the shape of a large wreath and decorated with crystallized fruits, it is meant to symbolize a bejeweled crown. In honor or the holiday, Mercado Little Spain’s Spanish Diner will be holding its own annual festival, this year in a socially distanced way. You can stop by Wednesday, from 4-7 pm, for a delicious meal and slice of the sweet dessert, with or without cream—and catch an appearance from the trio of kings too.
The celebration won’t end there, though. The restaurant’s paella pans will be serving up deliciousness this Wednesday, and then continue weekly, with rotating versions of the local rice dish: Paella Gamba Roja, featuring red shrimp; Paella Butifarra, which spotlights sausage; and Paella Valenciana, the classic. Each can be accompanied by a porrón, or traditional glass pitcher, of sparkling cava for a special price. While you’re there, think about picking up your own pans, rice and necessary ingredients, so you can cook up your own feast at home.
