Andra Day Wins Golden Globe
Hudson Yards Opening Day performer takes home best actress in a drama for her performance in The United States vs. Billie Holiday
Nearly two years ago, Andra Day sang her hit “Rise Up” at the official opening ceremony of Hudson Yards. Standing on a platform before Vessel on the Public Square and Gardens, she belted out the anthem while Alvin Alley dancers twirled in the background—a chorus joining her for the last part. And now, she adds Golden Globe winner to her accolades. With her award on Sunday, Day becomes the second-ever Black woman to win the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture – drama, and the first in 35 years. There’s also quite a bit of Oscar buzz. Hudson Yards congratulates Day and celebrates this victory, wishing her great success. To see more of Day’s incredible talent, watch her also perform the song “Manhattan” from the neighborhood’s opening day celebration.
