The partnership with Global Citizen, builds on Hudson Yards’ commitment to being a model for sustainable cities of the future leading the U.S.A. in urban energy solutions, storm water collection and affordable housing, including:
- Hudson Yards was planned as the largest LEED neighborhood in New York City.
- Ten Hudson Yards, first to open in our Hudson Yards project, is LEED platinum and one of New York’s most energy-efficient Class A office towers.
- The neighborhood is also a model for stormwater reuse with multiple rainfall tanks around the neighborhood, including a 60,000-gallon tank in the platform that forms the base of the neighborhood, used to irrigate the 200 mature trees and 28,000 plants in the public park as well as in mechanical systems throughout the neighborhood ensuring we make the most of every drop.
- Hudson Yards’ state-of-the-art cogeneration plant and microgrid save an estimated 24,000+MT of CO2e greenhouse gases (equal to the annual emissions of 5,100 cars) from being emitted annually.
- Hudson Yards is an economic engine for New York City, already contributing more than $10 billion to the City’s GDP during construction and serving as a significant source of revenue to the MTA. Once fully developed, Hudson Yards will contribute nearly $19 billion annually to New York City’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and nearly $1 billion annually in State and City taxes.
- The companies and buildings at Hudson Yards will bring over 57,000 jobs to the new West Side neighborhood and Hudson Yards also estimates that, over the next six months, upwards of 600 new jobs will be filled by the developers and management team to provide essential services at the development, most of whom will be represented by SEIU 32BJ, plus thousands of additional jobs at restaurants and other campus businesses.
- Developers created the Hudson Yards Hiring Network, an innovative public-private collaboration designed to identify and recruit talent from New York’s most in-need populations. The initiative has already placed hundreds of New Yorkers in new jobs and expects hundreds of more jobs to be filled over the next few months.
- Over 1,000 units of affordable housing will be created or preserved in and around the Hudson Yards community, when the project is complete, ensuring it is a neighborhood for all New Yorkers.
